First, I’ve got to give Lyoto Machida my respect. He is without a doubt the real thing; a serious bad ass. Lyoto Machida is as well rounded as it gets. He’s got impecable striking, excellent take downs, and a BJJ ground game. More importantly, Lyoto Machida has speed and accuracy and he doesn’t waste an ounce of misguided energy. This guy could be champion for a long time.

But the answer to “Can anyone stop Lyoto Machida,” is yes. The best man for the job is Quinton Jackson, but he’ll need to be at his best. The last time I saw Quinton Jackson psyched for a fight was against Chuck Liddell. Other qualified contenders are, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and Vladamir Matyushenko. Matyushenko isn’t in the top 10 because he doesn’t fight in the UFC, but he could fight and beat most guys in those rankings.

Now the reason for these Lyoto Machida pics are quite simple. Lyoto loves his left kick. He throws it high, he throws it mid section, and sometimes he throws it right after a left jab. 1) There’s a sweep and/or a take down waiting to happen here, followed by a ground and pound. Both Quinton Jackson and Mauricio Rua have these skill sets, and could finish Lyoto Machida this way. 2) Next we have the straight left, or the left hook. These would have to be drilled daily by the challengers. I know Quinton has the speed to counter the kick, and Shogun might. 3) Wrestling, if Quinton Jackson could use his natural abilities of speed and strength to get inside and drive Machida off balance, we might see Lyoto Machida dumped on his head for the first time. 4) Lyoto Machida was unable to finish Vernon Tiger White, on the ground or standing. Both Quinton Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua could put down Tiger anyday. 5) Both Quinton Jackson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua better come to fight. Loyota Machida has walked down most of his last oppenents, so the challengers will need to dictate the pace and control center ring. If anyone has a comment, spit it out. I look forward to the input.
